Most people, if they do it all all, try to drive it themselves, and if they survive it, without damaging their hired car, will still not get the full benefit of doing it the right way, and the way i organise it, and that is by traveling in the horse drawn jaunting cars on first the leg up through the mountains, and then traveling down through the lakes of Killarney on the second leg of this journey in the open boats. That is the true Gap of Dunloe tour, and that was the journey my group undertook today.
As i was not traveling with the group myself today, Mary Kate volunteered to stand in for me, and what a great job she did. Judge for yourselves as you view her pictures.
Here they have reached the starting point, where they board their jaunting cars, and set off on this epic journey.
The road ahead.
Mary Kate is really enjoying this. What a selfie.
This road and Gap was created by a gigantic glacier during the ice age. It is narrow and extremely dangerous. Eventhough it is not illegal to drive through here, it should be, as many inexperienced drivers do just that, and they are a danger to themselves and more importantly to others.
Well underway, as they pass by one of the many glacial lakes on this journey.
Erin and Coleen, on this narrow, and dangerous bridge, on the way to the top.
A view of this dry river bed, as we look up towards the top to the Gap.
You do selfies well Mary Kate. Nice one.Looks like Erin is steaming off ahead. She was having a ball.
She has caught up with her Mom Kathy, as they reach Lord Brandon's cottage down by the lakes.
Is this ballet or a new version of Irish step dancing? Well Erin is Irish, well mostly anyway.
Coleen, Mom Kathy, and Erin, all smiles. Well nearly. What's wrong Coleen? Are you ok?
Mary and Mary Kate. smiling happily. These two really are close, in more than the photo.
In the boats, and ready to head down through the river, and the lakes of Killarney. Com'on Coleen. What the matter? It's my hairband.
These three ladies really like boats. I have not seen Erin smiling as much since she arrived in Ireland. From the left, Mary, Mary Kate, and Erin. Keep on smiling Erin, you look a lot nicer when you do. I suppose we all do.
Back once again on dry land at Ross Castle at the end of this wonderful Gap tour. See what you miss when you drive it yourself. You may have saved a few dollars but com'on..... what good is that compared to the enjoyment you could have had.
From the left, Kathy, Mary Kate, Erin, Coleen, yes, smiling, and Mary.
I found him, my favourite horse, Cooper, and lined everybody up for a special picture for all of you back in Boston. Cooper is not only a jaunting cart horse, but a trained trotter. He is a star.
Tonight, to finish off a really special day, i took my ladies to the magical Celtic Steps show at the racecourse in Killarney town. The show takes place in the auditorium under the main stand at the race track, every night, except Saturday.
The ladies, seated together, rapt with their attention focused on the closing moments of this great show of traditional Irish dance, song and music.
And a special photo to round off a special day, all together, with some of the cast, after the show, featuring the shows stars, and my stars. Well done girls.
