Ashford Castle, the Burren, and the Cliffs of Moher.

Today was our day in county Clare, where we drove through the Burren, a barren region of limestone mountains, which were once upon a time the ocean floor. This area is bordered on the western Atlantic side by the awesome cliffs of Moher.

We began our journey at Ashford castle,where David and Carrie, had stayed last night, and the picture above was taken in one of the ground floor lounges.

This beautiful room, also on the ground floor, is used mainly for private groups for meetings or for special dining.

The day today was extremely foggy as we set out on our journey, and that is just about the worst type of weather you could have when going to see the Cliffs. In the picture above we have David and Carrie together at the memorial bronze in the town of Cong which commemorates the great "Quiet Man" movie.

Miracle of miracles, the sun broke through as we neared the cliffs .The town of Lisdoonvarna, in the heart of the Burren, is famous for its matchmaking ,where people would congregate after the harvest in the fall to find a partner, wife or husband. It was a time of great celebrations, and the professional matchmakers would try to find the perfect match for people. Believe it or not, this still goes on, and September is the month, if you are thinking about testing your luck. Many men travelled from the USA over the years, and travelled home again with a good hard working Irish girl.

Unfortunately the sun was behind David and Carrie here, which did not help my photo, but you can still see the great cliffs.

Now with the sun behind me, you can clearly see just how lovely our day was. This tower, O'Brien's tower, is located at the top of the cliffs

I think that this is a lovely picture, and it shows Carrie and David, relishing the superb sunshine, the fresh air, and the magnificent views at the top of these very special cliffs.

The flags wave proudly in the wind at the cliffs today with the Irish flag in the centre, accompanied by the flag of the European Union on the left, and the County Clare banner on the right.

Today was another great day for all of us, and we were truly blessed by the weather.
David and Carrie send their love to all back home and hope that they are enjoying following us on our tour in the west of Ireland.

Touring West of Ireland with own chauffeur/car and driver

to the beehive huts on the Dingle peninsula in the rain

to a pint at Coome in the highest pub in Ireland.

My present tour ended tonight after i left my party at Bunratty, where they will be enjoying the Irish night in the barn at Bunratty castle.
This latest tour was really enjoyable for me, and i know for them also.I like nothing better than to travel with a fun group, and we did have many great laughs together. Gigi and Larry had travelled with me before, but the rest of the party, Pam and Don, and Fr John and Fr Neil, were first timers who were tailor made for this group. Thank you Gigi and Larry for coming back to me, and for bringing such nice people to share this tour with you. You were all stars.

Chauffeurdriven vacations in Ireland with Dave Hogan

The famous Dun Guaire castle, which overlooks the town and harbour in Kinvara County Galway. You will pass this castle as you make your way from Galway city to the Cliffs of Moher. I took this picture in the fading light this evening, as i had to meet my young relative Ryan, all the way from Texas, as he was passing through my area om a bus tour with fellow students.

Ryan and his pals, with the castle in the background.What a pity i did not have more time to get to know them, but at least we did get to meet, and now they know where i am.

I had told Ryan earlier in the day where we might be able to meet, and he told me, that if i did get to meet their bus, it would be easy to recognise him, as he is very tall. I told him i was also tall, and six feet four inches.Well, as you can see, if i am six foot four, he must be nine feet four. If i was any bigger, nobody could live with me.

I start another tour tomorrow, so i will be Blogging again. Thank God the weather looks really nice for the coming week, and that, for Ireland in November, is fantastic.I am really looking forward to it.

Chauffeur Driven Vacations/private Driver/ West of Ireland Private Tours.

 Well today is a bank holiday in Ireland and it just happens that i can relax at home for a change, and eventhough i spent a lot of my day working on programs for prospective clients, i did get time to catch up on some gardening as my garden was in danger of becoming a jungle. I always get a great sense of satisfaction when i look at my garden after cutting the grass and doing a bit of weeding and tidying.It does look nice once again.
The picture above gives you some idea of just how high up you are at the Cliffs of Moher. The tiny looking boat below is actually a small ferry which brings people on trips to view the cliffs from below. The Cliffs and the Burren of County Clare are wonderful places to visit and most unusual so put them on your list.

 What a beautiful horse this is....the majestic Connemara Pony enjoying the sunshine near Clifden in Connemara. The Connemara pony makes a really great pet for kids as they have a lovely temperament and are not quiet as large as a full horse.

 My sparring partner Terry Rooney, at the fjord in Leenane. This man knew his stuff when it came to computers. I have invited him back again next year to challenge him on computer skills. Easy money for me.

The lakes of Killarney......renowned in song and story. You can take cruises on the lakes......maybe visit the monastic ruins on Inisfallen Island. Ross Castle on the shores of the lake is also a magnificent castle to visit.
