From the left, Rick, Carol, Claire, Joan, Vera and John showing off their grilled oysters in Moran's of the Weir this afternoon. This was only our starter course as we also had smoked salmon, crabmeat, crab claws, prawns, and home made brown bread with salad. Then we finished off with a mix of wonderful desserts including apple crumble, cheesecake, and the most wonderful bread and butter pudding, all with whipped cream and vanilla ice cream.
Am i making you hungry? Well if you ever come my way i can take you there also.
My latest group all the way from New York who started with me today.

Claire, Carol, Rick, Joan, Vera and John.
Everything about today was perfect, and once again i am blessed to have a lovely fun group of people to share my wonderful country with.Unfortunately i only have them with me for three days but we will be covering some special areas including Connemara and also some of county Mayo including the famous Holy Shrine at Knock.
This photo above was taken under the famous Lynch's window in Galway. It was here that a local magistrate by the name of Lynch, hung his own son after he had been found guilty of murdering another man who had an affair with his fiance. Nobody would carry out the hanging so the magistrate hung his own son himself. The say that this is how the term "Lynching" came into use.
Here my group are pictured outside Galway City's oldest building, St Nicholas's Church. Mass was celebrated here for Christopher Columbus and his crew before they set sail on their voyage to find "The New World". It was a Catholic church at that time but was later ransacked by Cromwellian forces and later again was taken over by the Anglicans. It is still in the hands of the Church of Ireland.
Here my group are pictured outside the famous "Moran's of the Weir" seafood and oyster restaurant on the outskirts of Galway city, thoroughly satisfied after a wonderful meal .
Hello again, David what a business you have :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment. I do love what i do and realize that it is a special privilege and one i do not take for granted. Ireland has a way of reaching places deep inside you that nowhere else can find.

Greetings David,
ReplyDeleteYour pictures have me missing your lovely country again. I had the pleasure of visiting Galway city a year ago march as my daughter was at University. Galway was a bustling, friendly, energetic city. it was filled with music I'm sure aimed at tourist like myself, there was on busker who could have been the reincarnation of Ronnie Drew. Did your group have a favorite Pub? or were you too full from Morans.
Thanks for the memories(to steal a Bob Hope line),
Brian
Dear Brian
DeleteIt sounds like what happens to everybody else happened to you.....you fell in love with Ireland. Galway is a great city, but no matter where you go in Ireland you will find great pubs with the best of Irish music. My group did indeed love Moran's of the Weir but they were open to everything else also, and that made them the best of company. Maybe someday you can come and enjoy Ireland with me.
Regards
Dave
Hi Dave
DeleteIt's Carol...speaking on behalf of the group, I can say Moran's was fantastic - especially the grilled oysters - but we also had dinner on Wednesday night at a place called The Roadford House in Doolin which was recommended by the owners of the house we stayed at.....it was wonderful and I highly recommend it! The owners were so very nice and the food was delicious.
Dave, thank you so very very much for making our trip so wonderful. We miss you already.
Thanks,
Carol
