Today was my final day on this tour with the Rooney's and our one major stop on the way from Kinsale to Dublin was at the Rock of Cashel. The picture above gives you some idea of what this place looks like but the fact that there is a lot of restoration work going on there, and that there is also an awful lot of ugly scaffolding around the walls, this makes it hard to see it properly. The entire place is built on top of a huge mound of rock. There is a circular outer wall, and inside, the remains of a castle and a great Cathedral and old Round Tower among other things. Queen Elizabeth made a point of visiting here last year during her historic visit to Ireland.
This picture shows the outer wall of the castle.
You can take a tour with this fellow around the local area.
Terry and DiAnn at the Rock today.

Here we have my friends Terry and DiAnn, sitting in an alcove inside the cathedral at the Rock.
I can only say that it was not easy to say goodbye to my friends the Rooney's after this lovely week with them and i hope that they enjoyed it as much as i did. They were great fun and very easy to be with. They will always be welcome back.
Dave,
ReplyDeleteThis has been a wonderful week. Your commentary and stories equalled the beautiful sights and landscapes. "Black tongue" will forever be part of our vocabulary, and foggy weather will henceforth be known as Dingle days. ;-)
We heartily recommend your services as a private driver and guide in your stunning western part of Ireland.
DiAnn
Thanks DiAnn and Terry. It was all great...and we did laugh a lot. Take care.
