Today was a special day with a visit to the Holy Shrine at Knock in County Mayo. We left Kinvara after breakfast and spent time visiting the old church (pictured below). This is a very special place of pilgrimage for many people who come here seeking help for themselves and for relatives or friends who have problems of any kind. It is a holy place with many cures attributed to this shrine.
The apparition appeared at the back of the church on the outside wall. The figures were those of Our Lady, John the Evangelist and St Joseph. There was also an altar with a large cross at the back, a lamb on the altar and a half circle of angels around the altar. The figures were all brilliant white with no movement or spoken words during the full period of the apparition. It happened on the 21st August 1879 at 8:00pm and in broad daylight and was witnessed by fifteen people, young and old.
Tomorrow we head for Killarney, one of Karen's favourite destinations.
