The famous Lynch's window in Galway city, which is right beside St Nicholas's Church in the center of the city. It was from this very window that Magistrate Lynch hung his own son after he had been tried in his court and found guilty of stabbing to death a man who has deceived him by having sex with the girl that Lynch junior was engaged to. The man had been a guest in the Lynch family home, as he had come to Ireland to learn English, and stayed in the Lynch family home as his father was a friend of Lynch senior.
He was tried before a jury and been found guilty, but nobody was prepared to hang him as they believed that the man was deserving of what the son did. Lynch senior, having given him the death sentence, hung his own son to complete the sentence he had passed himself. You can see the skull and crossbones on the plack below the window.
Galway does have a lot of tragic history.
