I am often asked what exactly is my favourite part of Ireland. What a difficult question to answer. I suppose it would be easier for me to answer what region of the country would i like best and that i have no doubt about. The Western seaboard is where i like to concentrate my tours eventhough as a tour guide and private driver i will always go where my clients want me to take them. My first preference is to spend most of my time in rural areas. All along the west coast from the south west tip to the top of Donegal you have the rugged Atlantic coastline and this is where you will find the most spectacular scenery. The mountain ranges provide a background to the nearly always cloudy skies and the many islands offshore add to the beauty of the coastline. The white sandy beaches are many and to the surprise of many visitors swimming is a great pastime for the Irish. Tourists take one look at the ocean and shiver but the truth of the matter is that our waters are lovely in the Summertime. This of course is due to the Gulf Stream which flows just offshore here in the Atlantic and keeps our waters nice and warm. Even the vegetation along the western seabord bears testament to this as there is such an abundance of floral growth in this region including Palm trees and Rhododendrons and Montbretia and many more tropical type plants. If you do like swimming i would strongly recommend that you bring your swim suits with you and have a dip while you are here. As kids we swam all the Summer long and loved every minute of it. I still do have my swim anytime i get the chance and my wife is a real fan of the ocean. Also the west is the least populated region and therefore it is a much more peaceful place to tour. Many of my clients will sepnd a couple of days in Dublin at either the begining of their tour or at the end and Dublin is well worth a visit. I could go on and make reference to many other areas in the country where there is much to se but that is for another time. Our island is just one picture of beauty.
I have this weekend free and intend to relax a little. Relaxing for me will be catching up on a few things like my garden. This chauffeur/guide always seems to have things to do but i never like being idle.
I would like to send my regards to all of my friends who have toured with me recently and hope that they are settled down at home once again. Despite the gloom and doom of recession i have to say honestly that i cannot complain this year as it has been good for me. I still have vacancies for September and October so if you are thinking about a holiday why not come my way. I would love to see you.
