The Rock of Cashel

Ryan's Daughter Restaurant in Cashel

This morning we left Kinsale on the final leg of our journey to Bunratty where my party will spend their final night before departing from Shannon tomorrow morning. Our first stop was at the famous Rock of Cashel. This is a most impressive castle built on top of a huge rocky mound and was a fortress for many ancient kings of Munster. In later years a great abbey was built on the site also and the remaining ruins are well worth a visit. My favourite place to eat in Cashel is that lovely little restaurant, Ryan's Daughter, which is located in Ladyswell Street. They always have a great selection of first class home cooked meals on their menu and the selection of desserts are irresistible. If you have ever had bread and butter pudding then you will know that it is one of the old Irish favourites but i bet you never had better than the pudding here. Today i tried their lemon meringue pie just for a change and i was not disappointed. It was top class. The range of lunches here are varied with many of our Irish favourite main courses such as bacon and cabbage and Shepherds pie among my favourites. Their prices are also most affordable so make sure you stop off here if you have time
We also visited the old Norman castle at Cahir before traveling on to Limerick and finally to Bunratty where this evening my party are dining at the medieval banquet in Bunratty. This will also be a special treat for them and a fitting finale for their Irish holiday.
