The Beara peninsula and Garinish Island

Today we were on our way to the Beara peninsula, Passing through Dungarvan (pictured above) on the way. I thought that this colorful picture would be nice.

Many of the roads in this area are surrounded by lush vegetation, and when the trees overlap and form tunnels over the road, it makes quiet a lovely picture, as you can see here.

and below

Carolyn and Gavin, pictured high in the mountains with a beautiful mountain lake, and Kenmare Bay in the background.
Carolyn, sitting on the wall of a small bridge, with a mountain stream in the background.

I think that i have to give this one "My picture of the year", as this fine sheep poses for me high in the mountains. What a great picture.

The drive over the Healey Pass is one of the most spectacular drives you can take in this magnificent part of Ireland, or indeed in any part of Ireland. I took this picture of Gavin right at the top at the Healey Pass and you can see the road behind him as it winds its way down to Glengarriff on the other side. This is quiet a dangerous drive, and if you do take it, just make sure that you take your time as there are many very dangerous and blind bends to navigate. Maybe you just might be better off to get me to bring you there.

Here we have Carolyn sitting on a stone bollard right at the mouth of the pass. This point is right on the border between County Cork and County Kerry.

The pass is also maked with this scene of the crucifixion

.Carolyn and Gavin, waiting to take the ferry to Garinish Island in Glengariff.
Here comes the ferry, the Blue Pool Ferry, which runs out to the Island regularly every day.

On our way with Gavin taking some photos.

There are many of these fine seals to see on the rocks between the mainland and the Island. Note the tiny baby pup to the right.
The Italian gardens are really beautiful on the island, with many gorgeous trees and shrubs and flowers all over the place.

Here we have Carolyn and Gavin, posing with the structure known as the Temple in the background.
Back on the mainland once again, and on our way back to Killarney via the Caha Pass, another mountain road ,where you can enjoy these spectacular tunnels on the way down from the mountains into Kenmare.
A final view of our spectacular mountains, and skies, at the end of another great day.
