Cliffs of Moher with th Ryans March 2015

This morning we left Kinvara behind and began our journey through the Burren of County Clare to the awesome Cliffs of Moher. Our first stop was the town of Lissdoonvarna where in the past, the farmers, after the harvest, looking for a wife, would congregate, and the women, looking for a husband ,would gather also. Many single men would travel from overseas also, most of them from the USA. Irish girls were known to make the best of wives. This is where the famous matchmakers came in, and they would act as go betweens to pair suitable people off. To this day, September, in Lissdoonvara, still celebrates the matchmaking  festival, and many people still come here where the matchmakers are continuing to operate with great  success.

Here we are at the Cliffs where today it was a little chilly, as you can plainly see. Fortunately the day was dry and was not spoiled by the weather. Later we arrived in Killarney where we enjoyed a lovely meal together in the Porterhouse Pub and Restaurant. I would highly recommend this place where the food and service are first class. You will find it in Plunkett street in the heart of the town.

St Brigids holy well, close to the Cliffs is well worth a visit and many people come here all through the year to pray for they dearest departed. In the background you can see the entrance to the well and inside you will see many little personal pieces of memoribilia left by families and friends.
This was another great day, but tinged with sadness, as a tragic accident had taken place at the cliffs where some lady fell over from the top, and unfortunately was killed. We were there at the time, but fortunately did not actually witness the tragic event. God rest her soul. We would like to pass on our sincere condolences to the woman's family.
If you are planning on coming to Ireland and interested in exploring a chauffeurdriven tour, please message me and we can take it from there. You will not be disappointed.
