My latest tour began in Dublin yesterday, where i collected Rita and Karlene, after they had arrived from Chicago. Rita has traveled with me many times before, and could be classed as an Irish tour guide at this stage. This was to be Karlene's first experience of Ireland and she was excited about everything.
Our first day touring began today with a visit to the Holy Shrine at Knock, where Our Lady appeared back in 1879. In the picture above, we have, from the left, Rita, and Karlene, inside the magnificent Basilica at Knock.
In this picture, we again have Karlene and Rita, with friend Sue, and the Basilica in the background.
Sue, Karlene, and Rita, pictured with the wonderfully restored Claregalway Castle in the background. This castle is located just about six miles outside Galway City, on the Tuam road, and is well worth a visit. Make sure that you get a guided tour of this castle, as, along with being a fine castle, it has a great history.
The restoration of this castle has only recently been undertaken, and eventhough there has been a huge amount done, the work is ongoing, and very exciting. Our visit today coincided with a workshop day for schoolchildren. There were all kinds of different workshop events going on, music, self defence, drumming, art, and various other things. In the picture above, we have Rita, adding a final piece to this beautiful floor art piece, put together by the children, consisting of many tiny different stones and pebbles, and pieces of wood. Our Rita was not to be outdone. Well she does have the enthusiasm of a teenager.
This was a really lovely day for all of us, with much more to come over the coming days, so follow along is you have free time.
