Vaillancourt in Gap of Dunloe June 2018

The Gap of Dunloe is always a very special day for my touring companions, and that was what lay ahead for the Vaillancourt's today.
The proper Gap tour, consists of a jaunting car ride, up through the old Gap road, a mountain gorge, carved through the McGillycuddy Reeks by a giant glacier during the nice age, and down the other side to the lakes of Killarney, where you board your boats, which then bring you down through those lakes, and back to Killarney at Ross castle on the shores of Lough Laune. Many tourists will tell you that they have done the Gap journey, but they have have only done the road bit, and they miss out on so much of the beauty of this place. In this picture, we have my pals, waiting to begin their adventure with their horse and jaunting car, all ready to go. From the left we have, Bill, Deborah,Traci, Allison and Brian.
One of the old bridges which cross the river which as it flows down by the roadside from the top, creating lovely lakes at various intervals.
Now for the boat ride, with Bill and Deborah tucked into their life-jackets.
Where is Brian? Not far away ever, and i think maybe taking this lovely photo of Traci and Deborah.
This journey is a mix of narrows, and wider lakes, as you make your way between the mountains, surrounded by some stunning scenery.
Approaching one of the bridges across the river in the narrows.
Another spectacular bridge as the boat nears the final lake, Lough Laune.
One of the many bridges you encounter on this journey.
Looking back at this beautiful final bridge as we enter the final approach to Ross castle.
Ross Castle is an old Norman Tower Castle, and was home to the O'Donghue family.
Back on dry land once again, after their epic journey, looking happy and sun-tanned. What a lovely day this was once again.
Celebrating together in the Uptown restaurant in Killarney last night. From the left, Traci, Brian, Allison, even me, Bill, and finally Deborah. This restaurant is in the heart of Killarney town, and well worth a visit. I would highly recommend this place, if you like a change. Delicious Indian, Thai, and Chinese menu.
