The beautiful Cathedral in Killarney town, where building work began as our horriffic famine erupted back in 1835. The great work which was done by people trying to keep going despite their raging starvation, was surely evidence of the faith these people had in their God, a faith which was also deep in the hearts of your early emigrants as they began a new life in the newly discovered USA.
Today you celebrate Thanksgiving, a fitting memorial to the enduring faith of so many of your people. Many of you have Irish roots, and you helped to turn your country into a great nation, and one to be admired by much of the world. My prayers will be for you, and my hope that a new faith will rise within you once again as you unite to work together to strive for unity once more.
