Today we visited Clonmacnoise, one of the most memorable early Christian sites in Ireland, which was created by St Ciaran in the early days of Irish Christianity. The amazing workmanship here was stunning with magnificent Celtic Crosses and magnificent round towers. This place was chosen as it was located on one of the main travel routes from the east of Ireland to the west and built of the side of the River Shannon, Ireland's largest river. This site was attacked on many different occasions by Irish, English and Viking raiders as these monastic settlements were noted for their wonderful gold chalices and other religious objects of great value.

A lovely picture of one of the round towers on this site, and also this magnificent Celtic cross. Many of the origin crosses have been moved indoors at Clonmacnoise as they were slowly being defaced by the weather.
Jose and Dawn once again in front of the small church built on the site of St Ciaran's grave.
Finally we went to our own home to meet up with my wife Sue and our lovely dog Fionn, and enjoyed some of Sue's wonderful apple pie with ice cream and freshly whipped cream. the perfect ending to a perfect day.
