My Tour with the Dauster party.

               Day 1

Today we were destined to tour Connemara, but first of all we decided to visit the Shrine of Knock a holy shrine in County Mayo where Our Lady appeared in 1879. This is a place, credited with many miraculous cures and recoveries, which have been examined and confirmed since.

My party, pictured together outside the enclosed chapel at the rear of the Knock church, with the statues of the apparition behind the glass.
The actual apparition included the figures of St Joseph, Our Lady, and John the evangelist. There was also an altar with a lamb encircled by a half ring of angels. There was also a large crucifix. All of this can be viewed on the Knock website, and the full story of the apparition.
This was a very special visit for my party and i know that we all appreciated it.
Then we were on our way to Connemara and our first stop was at Cong in County Mayo where we visited Cong, the town made famous by the great old Irish movie, "The Quiet Man," which featured John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara .

If you have seen this movie you will remember when John Wayne picked up Maureen before dumping her in the river.
From the left here we have
Steve and Jean, and Gail and Bill.
Cong is located at the top of Lough Corrib , the largest lake in the Rep of Ireland. The famous castle, once an OFlaherty castle, was located here in Cong and today it is one the world's most famous and magnificent hotels, Ashford castle.

From the left, Jean and Bill, and Jean and Steve, with the magnificent Ashford Castle Hotel in the background. This is located on a wonderful and huge site which includes a golf course, clay pigeon shooting, falconry, river and lake tours on ferries, fishing, and a hotel where you have much more to enjoy. Dining is a new experience here, and eventhough it may be expensive , it will be an experience to remember.
When today, our day came to an end of this two day adventure, i was sad to have to bid farewell to my new friends , it was once again a wonderful time for which i am very grateful. I do not like to say goodbye, so i always say

SEE YA

Day 1

My Tour with Bill Dauster and party.

This was a really lovely two day tour with some really nice people and sadly it was just a two day one. They had spent a few days in Dublin before deciding to spend a couple of extra days in the western regions as they wanted to visit the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare and the Connemara region in County Galway. Both of these areas are very special and are high on my list of areas i always try to bring my fellow travellers. This was to be a two part tour with the Cliffs of Moher on Day 1 and Connemara on day 2.

                                  Day 1

My party, pictured together on the Hill at Corcomroe, with one of the thousands of miles of walls which the western regions of Ireland are famous for, in the background. These stones, were left on top of the ground when the advancing ice flow came to a final end and began to melt, leaving them all scattered in this region of the west of Ireland. They were then used by the farmers in later years to separate the land into individual fields. From the left here we have,Jean, Steve, Bill, and Gail.

Pictured together once again at the ancient Corcomroe Abbey which dates back to the early eleven hundreds. The ground around the Abbey are now used as a cemetery and is a lovely placde to visit. The abbey was finally attacked and destroyed by Cromwell and his forces as were many wonderful abbeys throughout this period. The monks were either killed of were fortunate enough to flee and escape.

Then it was on to one of Ireland's most talked about towns, the town of Lisdoonvarna, famous for its matchmakers , and its matchmaking  festival, which runs through the full month of September. We were actually just there after the festival had ended. Maybe the guys were lucky as they could have landed themselves in trouble if it was still in full swing, The amount of men and women who come here every year , and for many years now, is amazing and there have been thousands of people who have found their partners here down through the years. In the years gone bye, especially post famine in the mid eighteen hundreds, when people were starving and penniless, many men came from the USA to find an Irish girl to bring home to the USA to marry, and so many of their descendants are still alive and well over there since.Men from the USA are still traveling here in September every year and still finding Irish girls to marry.
The selection of a partner is done with the assistance of fully qualified matchmakers who take prospective partners details and then try to match them up with a suitable partner. There is no doubt that there have been many successful marriages as a result of these matchmakers selections. In the picture above, we have Bill and Gail to the left, and Jean and Steve on the right. Between the two of them we have a picture of Willie Daley, one of the most famous matchmakers in Lisdoonvarna. He runs his service from inside this pub.

Then we made our way to the ferry port where my party boarded their boat for their trip which was to take them on their ferry ride down along the coast to view the awesome Cliffs of Moher.

All aboard and ready to go as their ferry sets out from Doolin Pier, just as another ferry makes its way back in again.

Unfortunately at this point in time i do not have any photos taken of the cliffs on this trip, as i myself did not travel with them, and i am awaiting receipt of same and will post them again when they send me some.
I do know that they had a really wonderful time and were so happy that they took this trip.
